Five age-based awards celebrating young creators across India — from our youngest 6-year-old artists to accomplished adults making their mark in literature, performing arts, and visual arts.
Celebrating our youngest artists with the purest, most untutored creative expression. The Nanhe Ratna Samman honours children ages 6 to 9 who show remarkable imaginative ability in dance, drawing, music, poetry, or drama. This award nurtures the seed of creativity before it becomes shaped by formal instruction — raw talent at its most beautiful.
Recognising emerging skill and growing dedication in young artists ages 10 to 13. At this age, creators begin developing personal style and discipline. The Baal Samman honours those who show both natural gift and the willingness to craft their art — whether through classical dance forms, Hindi poetry, original drawings, or theatrical performance.
For adolescent artists ages 14 to 17 who are finding — and asserting — their unique creative voice. This is the age of artistic awakening: ideas become complex, emotions deepen, and the work begins to carry genuine meaning. The Kishore Samman celebrates that critical threshold where talent matures into intentional artistry. Original written work is mandatory for literature entries.
Recognising mature, accomplished work from young adult artists ages 18 to 21. Participants at this level are stepping into professional and semi-professional creative spaces. The Yuvashree Samman acknowledges depth, consistency, and the courage to create work that stands apart — across classical Kathak, original Bengali prose, contemporary painting, or experimental theatre.
Rachnakaar's highest recognition — awarded to established artists, writers, musicians, and cultural leaders aged 21 and above who have made an enduring contribution to Indian arts. The Honours of Excellence is not open to direct application; recipients are nominated by the Rachnakaar jury, schools, academies, or the public and evaluated by an independent panel. This is a lifetime honour.
